eventually complicate holiday travel for millions of americans. i'm harris falkner. for the next 48 hours, rather, highly active weather patterns will bring fresh snow to some regions. heavy rain to others and even the threat of twisters for some states. we're watching all of it. meteorologist maria molina is live in the fox extreme weather center now to tell us what each region of the country will face. >> that's right, we're tracking two storm systems, one is out west and another one is across portions of the the southeast and eventually, it will move northward. the one across the southeast not really that much of a powerful storm system. right now producing light showers and areas of light rain across areas of tennessee, western parts of the carolinas, northern portions of the florida. again, the storm is headed northbound so the areas in the northeast have temperatures and cold enough to see the precipitation come in the form of snow, and a nice light coating two to three inches is forecast for tomorrow. good news for interior portions of the northeast, but
4:02 pm
as we head westbound, this storm system has been producing heavy snows across the sierras and the the cascades in the state of washington and oregon, feet of snow dumped on out here, good news for skiers, but not for those travelling out here. and the good news for the west coast, we'll start to see the system eastbound and you guys will clear out and parts of the rockies, and you can see stuff across parts of western colorado, utah, the state of new mexico and arizona and then as we head into later in the day, christmas eve and christmas day, the storm is going to ramp up. moving through portions of the central plains and produced about six inches of snow in some place that is typically don't see a white christmas and across parts of the texas panhandle, oklahoma, arkansas, missouri and a winter storm watch that has been issued across the state of oklahoma and you're likely going to continue to see these issued out as that system is headed
4:03 pm
your way and again, significant snow accumulation with up to six inches forecast for some of you. but, unfortunately on the southern end of the system where temperatures are too warm to see snow, we do have some severe weather possible tomorrow. large hail, damaging wind gusts and even tornados will be possible in eastern texas and also parts of louisiana and as we head basically into christmas eve and christmas day, the storm will head eastbound and impact portions of the east coast. >> saw the blue on the map, that's tough for travelers, too, that's the wintery mix that can slow things down. maria will come back as the news warrants. thank you very much. triple-a reporting more than 93 million of you are expected to be on the move over christmas. and nearly nine out of the ten people will be on the road driving and the airport is also packed. as you know, there was a blast of winter weather last week that caused some flight delays

and cancellations and with the threat of new storms as maria just showed us on the way, travel on the ground or in the the air could cost you precious time and maybe even some cash if you get on an extra long layover. david lee miller we start there tonight. that airport saw some the greatest delays in the country. >> that's right, harris, what a difference a few days can make. this was positively an uneventful day, at least when it comes to travel, and that's the way many people like it. let's keep in mind this holiday season more than 5 1/2 million people are going to travel and for today at least, things did go smoothly. take a look over my shoulder. off in the distance, laguardia airport, the security check points only a handful of people in line. two days before christmas. it can be brutal, but today, very few delays and cancellations, not just here at laguardia, but system-wide as well. as for the passengers, they say they were prepared for the worst, but hoping for the the best. listen.
